March & April Programs

Please join us on Tuesday, March 11 at 6:30 pm at the Richards Library Ballroom. The Life and Times of a Revolutionary Soldier will be presented by Lance Kozikowski, a “Croydon boy” and 1963 graduate of Towle High School here in Newport.  He will portray a soldier who went to war and what he experienced. He will wear a researched and documented uniform and bring along several original artifacts from his collection.  He belongs to the Brigade of The American Revolution, an international re-enactment organization, and has been a member since 1969. He has participated in nearly all of the major battles of the war, adhering to the authentic standards of Brigade, i. e. sleeping on the ground rolled up in a thin wool blanket, fighting in the heat, cold, rain and snow from Quebec to Saratoga to Guilford Courthouse using no modern conveniences. Lance will be speaking from real experience and will leave the audience with a provocative question.  As a Brigade member, he has been in many films and is a consultant and instructor for the National Parks.  He and his gun crew blew up the barn in Alan Alda’s movie, Sweet Liberty.

Please join us on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 6:30 pm at the Richards Library Ballroom. The program is titled TR Returns to Newport presented by Dwight Wilder of Grantham.  After an absence of over 111 years, Colonel Theodore Roosevelt will be coming back to Newport to share his perspective of his 1902 wild boar hunt at Corbin Park and the tale of how he went from NYC Police Headquarters to the White House in the brief span of five years. Mr Wilder has been portraying our 26th President to audiences since 1995, including as an instructor for the Colby-Sawyer Adventures in Learning program.
